Yorkshire-based Flood Technology Group has this week installed the first of several Flood Adaptive Platforms that it will be providing to a caravan park at Stamford Bridge, creating the county’s first fully flood adaptive holiday accommodation and helping the site’s owner to future-proof their business.

The exciting development will also enable Weir Caravan Park, which is located in a picturesque setting on an island on the River Derwent, to get full flood insurance cover through Compass, a leading specialist provider to the holiday park sector, which has endorsed Flood Technology Group’s innovative flood adaptive products.

Site owner Kevin Hind is working with Flood Technology Group’s team of flood risk experts to protect caravans on up to ten pitches. The team recently completed the installation of a Flood Early Warning System, which will provide highly accurate updates as a flood event unfolds to support the timely and safe evacuation of people before flooding actually occurs. They also retrofitted the first Flood Adaptive Platform to one of the caravans on the site, giving it the unique ability to detect and react to flood conditions by automatically elevating above the rising water.

Simon Gilliland, Chief Executive of Flood Technology Group, said:

“We have our headquarters here in Yorkshire, so it’s great to be working on our first climate resilience project in our home county and we’re delighted to be able to assist the team at Weir Caravan Park.
“Our Flood Adaptive Platform has already been successfully applied to modular buildings and mobile homes/holiday lodges, but its potential is limitless, across the globe and across many different sectors.
“With so many holiday parks located in riverside or coastal areas, our changing climate means that the level of flood risk that they face is growing rapidly. For example, according to the latest projectionsby Natural Resources Wales*, between 2024 and 2120, the number of caravans in Wales at high risk of flooding from rivers will increase by 68% and the number at high risk of flooding from the sea is set to rise by an astonishing 795%.
“Although we’re still in the process of analysing the latest corresponding data for England, we’re fully anticipating it to paint a similar picture. This explains why we’ve had such a huge amount of interest from holiday park owners around the UK.”

Kevin Hind of Weir Caravan Park, said: “As a riverside holiday park, knowing that Compass will insure our caravans once we’ve installed Flood Technology Group’s innovative products gives us peace of mind. Our close proximity to the river is one of the main reasons that people enjoy visiting our caravan park but, with climate change increasing the level of flood risk that we face here in the UK, it was important to future-proof our business.

“The Flood Technology Group team are incredibly knowledgable and were able to advise us on the best approach to suit our needs. The installation was quick, easy and caused minimal mess and disruption. We believe that this type of cutting edge technology is the way forward for sites like ours; it’s undoubtedly the best way to protect people and property.”

Having created the world’s first flood adaptive holiday lodges at a riverside site in Warwickshire last year, Flood Technology Group is now working with holiday park owners across the UK to help them future-proof their businesses against the growing flood risk posed by climate change.

Flood Technology Group’s unique flood adaptive technology is endorsed by Compass, which provides specialist insurance cover for holiday and residential park customers. Compass is happy to consider providing full flood insurance cover to customers who fit Flood Technology Group’s ground-breaking Flood Adaptive Platforms to their caravan, lodge or holiday home.
